Automotive Photography is a passion for many people and like us we love seeing more and more photographer’s showcase their pictures. We will be sharing with you photographers from all over and their work with our new “Behind The Lens” features.

For our first post we would like to share with you a young and talented photographer from California, Trevor Thompson. Some of you may know him from his company Activfilms.tv, which has been showing up on all the social media networks lately and gaining many followers.

Here is a little interview we had with Trevor:

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

My name is Trevor Thompson, born and raised in the
sunny state of California. People may think I grew up around
photography, but in truth, I starting photography in high school because I
thought it would be an easy class to take. Before I took my photography
class, I was pretty big into graphic design. I did not come from a
blank “creative” background. I had trouble in my first year of
photography, I failed every test, although I excelled greatly in the actual shooting aspect of photography.
I don’t think I got anything less than a “A” on projects. It took me awhile to really appreciate photography, but when I did…oh boy it took over my life. I have been shooting photography for almost 5 years now. I did have a long break during this time though, I didn’t shoot much photography for about a year and a half. About a year ago, I was introduced to automotive photography by a friend of mine and since then I have been shooting photography 3-4 times a week.

How long have you been a photographer?

I guess I have already answered this but I have been shooting photography
for close to 4-5 years now. The first 3 years was really just casual shooting and I never had a real photo-shoot during that time. My first actual photo-shoot was probably last year, which was done for an action
sport magazine emphasizing in skim boarding. I have only been in the automotive photography game for 10 months now, but in these 10 months I have learned more than I would have ever thought. I have also had the chance to meet some great contacts and some new friends who I would never have known if I never jumped into this scene.

What is your favorite photo shoot so far and why?

Ohh…that’s a tough one. I have had the opportunity to shoot with many
great car owners but the one that stands out the most was one with 2
Ferrari F430′s, Audi R8, Audi S5, and Acura NSX. The reason the shoot
stands out, other then the amazing lineup of cars, would have to be just
the owners in its self. All of us had a great time during this shoot and
ended up finding a tunnel to do a few pulls though

What’s your current camera gear?

My personal camera gear is actually pretty lame compared to most. I have
the Canon 7D, Tokina 12-24mm F/4, Canon 50mm 1.8 and the canon kit lens
28-135.

If you had to bring only 1 lens to a shoot which would it be and
why?

Hmmm, although I don’t personally own one, the lens I would take to EVERY
shoot would be the Canon 24-70 F/2.8. This lens is just so versatile and
sharp, can use it in any and every situation.

Your company Activfilms.tv seems to be getting some great attention
on the web. Tell us a little about Activfilms.tv and what you are
trying to accomplish in 2012.

Thanks, honestly the past 2 months have been surreal for ActivFilms. Our
fan base has grown 30,000% since the beginning of 2012, and this is
something that caught us by surprise. Enough of that though, our plans for 2012 are to simply “TAKE OVER”!!! No, but on a serious note, we are going to just let Activ grow naturally and see where it takes us next. That sounds a bit out of the ordinary, but seems like the best way to go! We also have some great partnerships in the works as well as a project or two that will be released around summer time which we are excited about!

Recently you started doing Rig Shots…how was it when you had to
edit your first shot?

Yes, we recently acquired a rig into ActivFilms’s arsenal. I need to say
that this is one of the greatest investments as of yet. The first shot was a little tough for me, but since I have been using photoshop longer than I have been in the photography game I was able to pick up the clone stamping pretty quickly. There are still points to where it is hard to clone, but when you stare at the screen long enough you start to learn more haha!

Since you’re a photographer and a car enthusiast, if you could
shoot any car which one would it be?

That’s an easy one! Koenigsegg Agera R, ever since I saw a picture of one
online I knew that would be the one car I would strive to shoot. Although I have yet to see one in the wild, I always think of the day I will get the opportunity to get in front of one to shoot.

Last weekend we had to check out some sliding action at Willow Springs Raceway for the Top Drift Round 1 event hosted by Just Drift. Even with the bad weather Sunday the action still continued. Here a re a few photos for now…check back this week for more.

It’s been a little while since I have had some drifting coverage. We are looking forward to this weekends event at Willow Springs Raceway in Rosamond, CA. If you are in the area you should come out and watch…it’s only $10 to enter the raceway. Hope to see you guys there!

For those electric car lovers out there…Morgan Motor Company has been designing a electric sports car with an old school flavor called the “Plus E”. The Morgan Plus E has a 5-speed manual gearbox, powered by a 94 hp Zytek engine. With a 0-62mph time of six seconds and a top speed of 115mph, you will enjoy the electric range of 120 miles while driving with the top down. We still don’t know if it will actually go into production but we know the electric crowd will be drooling over it.

The Black Pursuit event at Savini Forged Wheels was held to find 10 Black sponsorship vehicles for their Black di Forza wheel line. At the Savini warehouse, they had a DJ playing some music, provided water & energy drinks from NOS Energy, and food. There were some non-black cars at the event, like a purple Ford Fiesta from M2 Motoring and a panda themed Hyundai Veloster which I had never seen hooked up before and I have to say it looked pretty good. It was a very warm day and it seemed like everyone was trying to find some shade while the judging was being held.

The judging for the event started around 11am and went till about 3pm, unfortunately we had to leave before 3pm so we did not here who one the sponsorship wheels. We will have more info on that for you soon.

Last weekend we headed out to the beach in Santa Monica, CA for the Wrong Fitment Crew Meet. We got there around 8:30am and there were probably around 40-50 cars already there. The meet was a success with a couple hundred cars showing up all together. Even as we left we saw the surrounding parking lots filled with modified cars that couldn’t make it into the beach parking. So great to see everyone come together…Shout out to Wrong Fitment Crew for some good times.

Just Sit Back and Relax

This is one of the coolest videos I came across this morning. I don’t know if you have heard of Devin Graham but he does some great videos. I have followed his work for quite some time and this video…well I just had to post it up, it’s called “Trike Drifting”. While in New Zealand, Devin had heard about these guys who to these trikes that they had modified to drift. Check out the video because I think we can all agree that this would be a good time.

Continuing the coverage from this years WekFest San Francisco…when you look back and realize how many people have covered this event with pictures and video, it is simply amazing. So much coverage has been seen all over forums, facebook, twitter, etc… It’s great to see the automotive industry getting itself back on track so that its fellow enthusiasts may enjoy what it has to offer. We would like to say there have been some great video coverage on this event and we can’t wait to start providing videos of our own. Enjoy some more pics!
