There has been talk about Toyota Speedway, in Irwindale, CA, closing its track. Considered one of the best short tracks in the nation, sources are saying they saw workers taking down the pit grandstands along with other sites commenting employees of the track have confirmed and while they are sad they say it is true. For those really familiar with the track you will know about the large billboard that runs along the San Gabriel Valley River Freeway is now turned off for the first time ever and it seems they have already taken down there website as well.

Opened in 1999, Toyota Speedway was a state-of-the-art track which cost several million dollars to build. It gained its national fame in 2000 when Stewart won the Turkey Night Grand Prix and was named by a NASCAR Hall of Famer as the greatest short track in America. The track has also being used for a wide variety of commercials, movies, and television shows. If the racing operation is going to be closed it may stay for the use of filming. The recent Hyundai Super Bowl commercial was filmed their over the course of three nights.

Along with being the home to many events such as Turkey Night Grand Prix and the Toyota Showdown for NASCAR, I will miss Toyota Speedway for a variety of events…their Thursday night 1/8 mile drag races, Formula D, Xtreme Drift Circuit + Nightshift, and The Pursuit by Longo Lexus. Dates for these events have been scheduled for this year and now I guess we will just have to wait and hear for a full announcement from the track for further information.

We hope the track stays open because it will definitely be missed by many.
